Service Description

Is there a minimum level of fitness required? There is no minimum level of fitness required, and we can easily tailor the exercises to start at a level most suited to you – complete beginners are more than welcome. We would, however, recommend an initial assessment with a Qualified Physiotherapist if you have any particular needs or concerns before undertaking any exercise. What are the different types of Pilates? Pilates can be modified to suit all different levels of ability and objectives. We provide a small number of different Pilates classes – from beginners, intermediate and advanced Matwork Pilates. Classes are provided in small groups (12 patients maximum), as well as 1:1 or 2:1 for anyone wishing to have individual advice. What are the benefits of Pilates? Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on activating certain muscles that lie deep around the spine, pelvis and hips (core stability muscles). These muscles, when strengthened, can provide a large number of benefits to an individual, such as: • Improved muscle tone, greater power production in sports • Better postural alignment and awareness • Reduction in pain • Reduced risk of injury • Accelerated speed of recovery • Reduction in stress levels and improved sense of well-being What is yoga? Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of stretches/ movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. What are the health benefits of yoga? Research and studies suggest yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance. There's some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress. Aerobic exercise facts: • Aerobic exercise stimulates the heart rate and breathing rate to increase in a way that can be sustained for the exercise session. • Aerobic exercise not only improves fitness; it also has known benefits for both physical and emotional health. • Aerobic exercise can help prevent or reduce the chance of developing some cancers, diabetes, depression, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis.
